This winter feels more like spring and the fish love it!

By February 14, 2017 May 29th, 2017 Fishing Report

We have had an unusually warm winter down here in the Tampa Bay area. I can’t say that I can complain much about it as I like catching bait in February at 6am with 70 degree temps – much more than when the temps are 50 degrees. But, not only do I like this warm winter weather, the redfish ad snook love it too! This warmer weather keeps baitfish on the flats and that keeps the fish happy.

Trout have been in a spring pattern much more so than their typical winter pattern. Which is good and bad. We’re getting plenty of fish but they aren’t bunched up like they normally are when it is cold. redfish schools have been thick in the Fort Desoto area and snook have been feeding well also.

If this pattern holds, we’ll have a great time the rest of winter and it will usher in some outstanding spring fishing.
